Weekly Recap 9/8/14 – 9/14/14

Dopey Challenge Countdown: 1 Weeks Down/17 Weeks To Go

Happy Monday all! I have some great news…Houston actually received some FALL weather this weekend! We had some temps in the 70’s with clouds so it was almost perfect sweater weather. In fact, it inspired me to get a few little decorations from Hobby Lobby (it was packed there on Saturday – I guess the nice weather sparked decor interest in other people as well haha). I’ll post pictures when I have the apartment Fall-ready!

My first week of Dopey Challenge training went very well. I even found run/walk intervals that work well for me for now. I ran .9/.1 intervals for all 4 of my running workouts this week, and more importantly, I ran them without any IT band pain. I did almost pass on my 3 miler Sunday though – I was on my feet for nearly 7 hours on Saturday. I worked the Bondi Band booth at the Houston Wicked Wine Run which was a blast! They actually have a lot of locations for this race, so if you ever get the chance to participate, I highly recommend it! There is a 5K trail run and a 1K wine tasting walk, all followed by an after party with a live band and costume contest. The coolest thing for me, though, was being able to set-up my booth at the finish line…I love watching people’s faces when they finish a race!

In other fun news, Robert and I signed up for a local kickball league and our first game was on Thursday. Robert played last season with the same team (and they won the championship!) but since I was injured I couldn’t join. I am ready to play now though! We won our first game, and am looking forward to helping defend our championship title!

Lastly, I started making some ADR’s (advanced dining reservations) for when Robert and I are at Disney for the Dopey Challenge. So far I have a dinner at California Grill during Wishes, breakfast at the Kona Cafe (can’t wait to try their famous Tonga Toast), and lunch at Sanaa! Are there any restaurants, outside the parks, that you recommend at Disney World?

QOTD:  Have you ever played in a ‘just-for-fun’ local team sport league?

  1. I did soccer a few years ago for fun, but I am always competitive. This was before I started running and it was fun to have games every Sunday.

    1. Oh even though it's a just-for-fun league, there is still some competition! The winning team gets a trophy at the end of the season :0)

    1. VERY early. Especially for the really ridiculously popular restaurants like Be Our Guest. There is always the option for lunch as well though!

  7. I've thought about doing some run intervals-do you always do them? Do you think it helps you be less tired?

    1. I actually have only been doing them since I started running post-injury. Once I feel more comfortable running, I'll probably go back to just taking a walk break as needed. Although it is difficult to get in my 'zone', I do think intervals help in being less tired!

    1. Oh nice!! I'd love to stay at the Poly someday, but we chose Art of Animation for our W&D trip! We should meet up at the Poly for some Dole Whip ice cream!

  10. YAY! Awesome. So excited to follow along with you as you train for Dopey, and glad you're running pain-free! I'm working on making our ADRs for WDW Marathon Weekend, too! I don't have any restaurant recommendations for outside WDW property, though, haha. You are going to loooooove California Grill -- by far the most magical Wishes experience I ever had. I cried like a little baby. Not even gonna lie. ;)

  13. So glad your training started well! The Wicked Wine run sounds like a really fun one - I'll have to add that to my list of races to check out. And your current ADR's sound fabulous :) I've never been to Kona Cafe but it's on my list for my next trip. As far as restaurants outside the parks, I'd recommend Beaches & Cream, and I've heard really good things about Artist Point at the Wilderness, or any of the restaurants at the Grand Floridian. I'm a big fan of Raglan Road and Earl of Sandwich too :)

  14. Great week of workouts!!!!! Awesome that you had some fall temps, that probably really made running outside much more enjoyable!
Smart to make advanced reservations. The group I ran the Disney World Marathon with made some at the Yacht Club for the evening before the race. It was weird because I had to order my meal about 4 months in advance, LOL But it was good we did, otherwise we would have never gotten into the place!

    1. Actually I was just on the TM last week...had some busy days so couldn't drive out to the trail I usually go to!

I am always shocked how quickly restaurants fill up for reservations at Disney!

  16. Great job this week! 1 week of training down :) I ate at Kona last year during Marathon weekend and the tonga toast is awesome! 'Ohana is probably my favorite restaurant outside the parks. I also enjoy Contempo Cafe @ The Contemporary. (The Mahi Mahi Sandwich is to die for!), Captain Cooks, @The Poly (pork nachos, and dole whip) and Raglan Road @Downtown Disney.
