Weekly Recap 9/15/14 – 9/21/14

Dopey Challenge Countdown: 2 Weeks Down/16 Weeks To Go

Hey y’all, happy Monday! I am going to be completely honest with you, I almost didn’t write a post for today. I had yet another setback last week. Everything seemed to be fine until Friday; I went to the gym to do my 5 mile long run and started my usual intervals. I made it through 4.3 miles but then my IT band began to hurt…bad. I walked until the treadmill said 4.75 miles then went home feeling extremely defeated. As most of you know, I battled ITBS on my LEFT side for most of the summer. I overcame that, but Friday it was my RIGHT IT band that was hurting. WHAT GIVES?! Anyway, I was obviously very upset, but I think I have a plan.

On Friday I drove over to Austin to work the Bondi Band booth at the Camp Gladiator finals, which was a blast! But more importantly, they had a booth sponsor there that helps athletes with injuries and their average rate of success (meaning athletes go back to their usual workouts) is after THREE sessions. Sign me up!! The only problem is I can’t remember the name…it starts with an ‘A’ so I messaged Camp Gladiator on Facebook asking what the company is and am just waiting on a response. One girl I was speaking with before the event began said she battled chronic IT band pain for a while and after a few sessions with them she said she didn’t have any issues. So I’ll keep y’all posted on what I find out, but I’m optimistic!

In other great news, last Wednesday was mine and Robert’s 2nd wedding anniversary! We celebrated by going to lunch together, exploring around the Woodlands area, and finally had dinner. Robert was in charge of making dinner and I was in charge of dessert. He made Cajun spiced filet mignon, seafood stuffed peppers, Creole sautéed mushrooms, and mashed potatoes. I made chocolate pots de crème. Everything was absolutely delicious! I also got him a new iPod Nano, and my gift is actually still being made. I will get it in November… I can’t wait to show you all what it is!

Wine we had with dinner (Gabbiano Chianti) – highly recommend!image

Robert and I also got Houston Texans jerseys this weekend! He’s always been a Texans fan, and while I am still a hardcore Cowboys fan, there are a couple football players who I will always follow: JJ Watt from the Texans, and Peyton Manning from the Broncos. So for whatever team they play on, I will be cheering!

  1. I hear ya about ITB. I knew mine wouldn't heal in just one summer since it's been hanging around for a while.

As much as I'm grumpy about today being Monday, new shows start today!!

  2. Oh no! Stupid IT Band! I am so sorry you had a set back but it happens. I hope it gets better soon! Happy anniversary! It is morning and suddenly I want filet mignon for lunch...lol. Woohoo for football! I love JJ watts even though he plays for Texans. I'm more of a Packers girl. :-)

    1. I found the company (Airrosti) and had my first session yesterday and I am feeling really optimistic about recovery!

Filet mignon would definitely be a yummy lunch...maybe cut it up for a nice salad! :0)

      JJ Watt is way awesome!

Dang it on the injury... sometimes it seems like they just keep coming. Hopefully its a quick flare up.

    1. Right?! I am stoked.

Unfortunately it is not just a quick flare up...my right IT band is tight but it's being worked out by my new doctor at Airrosti!

  5. Oh I am so sorry about the set back!!! That is one injury I have been lucky enough to avoid, although I did have a good runner friend who battled it for years. Eventually she was able to run marathons on it, and dealt with moderate pain, I know eventually the pain went away and she doesn't have any problems now. So hopefully that will be you? who knows maybe the thing the girl told you about is something to seriously consider??? Congrats on the anniversary and fun times!!

  6. Ugh! Sorry about your other ITB! I'll keep my fingers crossed for your new rehab option. I love that, thanks to you, OUAT is the only show where I actually know the new premiere date. :) I've been so busy I haven't looked into fall TV or even what new shows I want to check out but thanks to you, I know where I'll be next Sunday night. :)

  8. Happy Anniversary Lauren! Hope you had a great day! I'm sorry to hear about your IT band, but it sounds like you have it under control and have a good plan to rehab it.

I don't have a favorite NFL team per se, but most of the people in my family are Giants fans and I'm from southern Connecticut so I guess its the Giants by default! :)

  9. Oh I am SO sorry that the pesky IT band pain has come back. You know I struggled with that for a LONG time too. Funny thing, it was really bad on my right side in January and February but then during Princess weekend it was my left one that gave me so much trouble. I can still feel it getting tight once in a while but I take it slow and use ice after I run even if I don't feel I need it ( just preventative). I hope you find relief! ~M

    1. If you struggle with it still, I recommend seeing if there is an Airrosti office near you. I feel like I've been in better hands with them vs physical therapy already!

  10. Oh no. My injuries seemed to go from one side to another, probably because I compensate. Pesky IT bands. I think the only thing that finally saved my IT band was less running. Not what you want to hear, but marathon training, even half marathon training is too much for my legs. 10 mile training plus strength training and yoga seems to be my sweet spot. Didn't have too many problems with tri training. High mileage just doesn't work for me anymore. I hope you find the name of the company and can find some relief. Sorry, I know it's not fun :(

  11. Oh no I'm so sorry your IT band's just won't leave you alone! I actually had some really bad pain in my right one Sunday during my long run which made me think of you. I'm hoping icing and stretching will help! Running injuries are the worst!

  14. I'm so sorry to hear your "other" IT band is giving you a problem now. I don't know your insurance situation but I went weekly to PT for my calves/IT band and graston literally saved my running. I can't train for anything over a half without weekly PT sessions (in addition to working on things at home.) If your insurance covers it, it may be worth finding a sports focused PT office for your training. Good luck my friend!

  16. I think we runners have to assume that we are going to have injuries from time to time. Great quote and it so easy to feel defeated when we can't do what we love. Hope you are doing better this week

    1. Thanks Deborah! Having an injury during the summer wasn't so bad since I wasn't in training but now it's starting to stress me out with Wine & Dine and Dopey coming in the next few months.

  17. Lauren you need to get out of the injury funk. So sorry you have yet another setback. The biggest thing with Dopey training is getting in mileage even if it is walking the mileage. Don't worry, you will be ready when the race weekend comes around.

    1. I can't tell you how badly I needed to hear that I'll be ok for Dopey. I've been having serious doubts about it and stressing if I should continue training. I'm going to give it a while longer and hope that I can beat it and continue to train safely! Thank you so much for the encouragement!
