Weekly Recap 7/7/14 – 7/13/14

Happy Monday everyone! It is officially my LAST week of physical therapy for ITBS, and I will be scheduling my run gait analysis for next week – I am so excited to get back to running!

I had a very fun and busy weekend, which included finally getting my first Triathlon suit. Robert and I went to Luke’s Locker on Saturday just to see what they had, and I ended up finding a super cute and comfortable Pearl Izumi two-piece suit!

After that I was inspired to do a bit of bike shopping, and while I did not purchase one this weekend, I did find one that I really like! I went to Bike Land and talked with one of their sales reps who was really nice and very knowledgeable. He asked me a few questions and measured me for what size bike I’ll need, and recommended that I get a road bike rather than an actual triathlon bike. Not only are they much less expensive, but they work just as well as for people who do sprint triathlons all the way to full Ironman races! I am going to shop around and research a little bit more, but so far, I like this one. Now to figure out what races I will be doing!

In other great news, I ran/walked another full mile in PT on Tuesday, and have been keeping up with my IT band stretches and strength exercises. Also, I went to get a sport’s massage on Sunday and my masseuse said my IT band feels much looser than last time – score! I feel like I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel for my injury recovery!

My Workouts The Past Week:

Monday: Yoga + 20 min cycling + IT band stretches & strength exercises + arm strength exercises with weights + push-ups & sit-ups + ice & foam rolling

Tuesday: PT – Ultrasound & laser therapy + IT band stretches & strength exercises + The Stick + KT Tape application +  1 mile run/walk

Wednesday: Yoga + 20 min cycling + IT band stretches & strength exercises + foam rolling

Thursday: PT – Ultrasound therapy + IT band stretches & strength exercises + The Stick + KT Tape application + 10 min elliptical (forwards & backwards) + ice & foam rolling + push-ups & sit-ups

Friday: Yoga + 20 min cycling + IT band stretches & strength exercises + arm strength exercises with weights + push-ups & sit-ups + ice & foam rolling

Saturday: Rest Day – did some foam rolling

Sunday: 30 min cycling + IT band stretches & strength exercises + push-ups & sit-ups + ice & foam rolling

Monday Motivation!

  1. That is great news! I'm excited for you to get back on your feet after the ITBS!
The bike is cute! I obviously love the pink. I've always ridden Trek bikes, but I've only ever had mountain bikes.

  2. Me and my parents have Diamond Back bikes ( from dicks sporting goods). They are not racing bikes though. We wanted them just to ride on the boardwalk and go for trail rides. I love mine though! I'm excited that you are finishing up with PT. I hope you are back 100 percent!

  5. Nice looking bike and tri suit! Interesting about the road bikes - didn't know that, but I know very little about tris. Sounds like fun to do, though!

  6. What a great week!!! I am thrilled for you that your almost done with PT and you'll be back to running shortly!
Love the look of the possible new bike! I own a Specialized bike myself. However, its not a street bike, I used to be into hard core mountain biking so it's pretty decked out for that with all the shocks and stuff:) But I love it, I really should take it off the hook this year. I didn't even use it once last year now that I am thinking about it!

    1. Mountain biking is so fun! This will be my first road bike so I'm trying to learn as much as I can and look at reviews. It's a lot of information!

  8. Good luck on the gait analysis! I don't know how many more sessions I have, or if the place I'm at will contact the ortho and ask him to prescribe me more. I'm making progress so I'm very happy about that.

  9. Yay! I'm so glad that you're almost done with PT! I hope your gait analysis goes really well! The suit is super cute! As for bikes, I am a big fan of Specialized. My husband and I both have a mountain/road hybrid bikes and we love them. I also had a Specialized growing up. Good brand. :)

  10. YES! I am so, so glad you're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and that you're finishing your PT feeling strong and ready to get back to running! Also, I love the swimsuit and look forward to hearing what bike you end up with. I have a Trek bike and love it (I can't remember whether it's a road bike or a hybrid, but the guy at the store said it was a great option for a first triathlon, haha). Still itchin' to do a tri, so thanks for the inspiration!

    1. Thank you Jennifer! :0) Did you have a specific Tri in mind yet? I know you're training for the NYCM right now so do you think you'll do one this year or next year?

  12. Love the suit Lauren! Forgive me if I missed it - what tri are you doing? I borrowed my sister's road bike and it was a Cannondale. I have heard that actual triathlon bikes take a lot of getting used to, something about the angles of your legs. Plus they are crazy expensive! I'm so glad to hear your recovery is going well :)

    1. Thanks Michele! I haven't decided on one yet - I want to purchase a bike before I sign up for one and also make sure I am fully past my ITBS. They are ridiculously expensive...I was so relieved to hear a road bike would work perfectly!
