Progress Report for 2014 Goals

Happy July all! Can you believe we are halfway through 2014 already? It feels like the year is just flying by – before we know it, it will be time for football season, pleasant outdoor exercising, pumpkin spice lattes, and all the great holiday excitement that comes with the Fall! I can wait though, because I am still loving all the summer fun (even though the KT Tape I am wearing constantly does make it slightly difficult to tan by the pool though haha)!

In light of the six month mark of 2014, I figured a progress report for my goals for this year would be in store. I’ve been thinking about this post (and really dreading it too) for a couple weeks. Ever since I found out I have ITBS it feels like this year has been, for lack of a better word, a failure. But then I went to read my goals again, and I realized that if I take the whole injury portion out of it, it has actually been a fantastic year of reaching milestones and goals! I will not allow my ITBS to define my year.

I have no intention of changing my goals – I committed to them. However, if at the end of the year I am not able to complete certain ones, I will have no problems moving them to 2015.

Run Injury-Free: F
Yes, not the best start to my progress report, but I will be back to running in a few weeks, and I’ll be walking away with so much knowledge for the future.

Run First Full Marathon: A+
I ran the Woodlands Marathon on March 1st, and finished strong!

Run a Faster Half Marathon: A
My half marathon PR from 2013 was 2:13:48, and it is now 2:00:53 after the Alamo 13.1 in March. I’d say a 13 minute PR is definitely a hard earned “A”!

Run a 5K for Time: C
Although I haven’t ran a 5K yet this year, I plan on doing so during the Fall running season.

Complete a Triathlon: C
I am hoping this is something I can do in September or October. Triathlon season isn’t over yet!

Time myself for 1 Mile in January & December: F
I’m just going to call this an epic fail goal that can be moved to 2015. I was training for the marathon in January and February and kept putting my timed mile off. In hindsight, this goal was not the smartest one to commit to while I was training for my first full marathon.

Earn a runDisney Coast to Coast (C2C) Medal: B
I ran the Tinker Bell Half Marathon at Disneyland in January, and will be running the Wine & Dine Half Marathon at Disney World in November! Half way there!

Get ready for the 2015 Dopey Challenge: B
I am registered for the races, but still need to put together my training plan for when I get started in August.

Volunteer for a Race: C
Work in progress, and honestly not one I’ve thought about in a while since I’ve been injured. This is exactly what I need to be doing while I am sidelined though – cheering for everyone making their fitness dreams a reality. I need to find a race to volunteer at soon!

Sing the National Anthem at a Race: C
I have a lead for a possible opportunity, but not sure if it will work out – we shall see!

Balance Eating Clean & Budgeting: A-
Robert and I take our budgeting very seriously, and we’re doing great on the food portion of it. Clean eating has been mostly a success, although I admit the past few weeks have been a little less than stellar. However, since Dopey Challenge training has started for Robert (and my own starting next month), our diet is going back to healthy!

Overall I would say my progress report is not ideal, but also not a failure. With six months left in the year, I am confident that my final report card at the end of December will show far more A’s!

QOTD: How often do you re-visit your annual goals?

  1. ITBS considering, I'd say you're doing amazingly well! Better to let yourself heal than to try and push through it to complete certain goals, right? Your half PR is great! I can only dream of hitting the 2 hr mark. :) My hubby and I take our budgeting very seriously as well, except living apart has really messed us up. Can't wait to get back on track. :)

    1. Thanks Kim! I will gladly take full healing over meeting goals. Gotta think long-term! :0)

Hopefully you and your hubby can get back on track for your budget when you get to Texas!

  2. I don't have any goals so I don't drive myself crazy and hate my injury even more. That would add additional frustration and I'm already frazzled at the moment.

    1. Given your situation, I don't blame you one bit. I still am in shock for how long you've been injured.

  3. Awesome goals, and you've done a good chunk of them! I am a very goal oriented person, and sometimes life happen that gets in the way of my goals, but I don't let that bother me I can always keep pushing them out until they can be completed:)
Hopefully the IT problems are on their way out for good and you can get back to crossing off a few more of these:)

    1. Thanks Kristy! And exactly, life does happen. You would definitely know better than most considering your situation. I really hope you are able to get back to your running goals soon!

I honestly can't believe we're half way through. My Christmas anxiety will be starting up soon.

  5. You are awesome to have goals and keep up with them! It is great to self-evaluate and see that you have come quite a ways, even with being injured.
My first goal for this year (before I started running again) was to start eating breakfast every day. I guess I'd give myself an A- on it, I probably eat breakfast every day unless I sleep in really late!

    1. Thanks Sam! :0) Way to go on your goal - breakfast is definitely an important meal to kick-start that metabolism in the morning!

  6. I only made two goals for myself this year and so far I've already completed one and I will hopefully complete the other in October! I think you are doing great with your goals, especially with the amount that you made for yourself!

  8. I like this post. The year is going WAY to fast and I DO consider the running portion of my year kind of a failure but that is only because I have been dealing with it ALL year so far. I wrote a post this afternoon about what all i've tried and who i've seen for ITBS and hip pain and I was thinking of you while I wrote it wondering if you were still in pain and if you experience some of the possible causes I had listed! You are having a great year though. Honestly even though the year is half over, I feel like mine is just beginning :(

    1. I haven't read that post yet but I will very soon. I hope your ITBS is getting better for you. Even though your year may be just beginning, you still have 6 whole months until 2015 to accomplish so much! Don't feel too discouraged! *hugs*

  10. That's great progress on your goals, given the ITBS, and honestly the way you're handling the ITBS is definitely an "A" grade success for the year.

    1. Thanks Jess! It's definitely not been easy, and I'll write about this a little more tomorrow, but I've been eating a few too many 'pity' snacks. Back to square one diet-wise to lose those few extra lbs!

  11. I say you're doing great so far! If I had to grade it: B+. And that's only because you gavr yourself so many C's. But a plan is half the battle so I think you're well on you way to straight A's!
