Weekly Recap 4/28/14 – 5/4/14 (And That One Time I Played Quidditch)

Jump Rope Challenge Count: 10,000/10,000

Happy Monday all, and happy belated month of May! This has been one of the craziest week’s of the year thus far. Robert and I got back to Houston last Monday from our fun Washington D.C. trip, and then drove to Dallas on Thursday to spend time with my brother before he headed off to South Korea yesterday. A ton of fun was had this weekend, but the workouts definitely lacked, and honestly, I don’t feel bad about it at all. Why? 1) Because I wanted to recover from the Nike Women’s Half Marathon last weekend, 2) I think some time off completely from my knee will help it feel better in the long run, and 3) Family time took the #1 spot in importance.

During our weekend in Dallas we saw The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (how the third one plays out will make or break my overall opinion of this one), BBQ’d out in the backyard in the gorgeous weather, did a little shopping, and really just spent a lot of time enjoying the outdoors! We also took some family photos, then my brother, Brad, and I decided to have a little fun with the camera. Here are the results!

Robert and I also had to take cute pictures with Leilani & Malia – they are such great little models! I love the Army scarves my mom made them!

Here is the last picture with Brad before we saw him off at the airport Sunday morning (my shirt says “Proud Combat Medic Sister” – I love it!). I will miss him a lot, but I know he is going to have a blast in South Korea. I just hope I can visit him while he is there!

And now on to my *cough cough* lack of  *cough cough* workouts. I finally hit 10,000 jump ropes for my April Challenge! Other than that, I did an ice bath on Monday, helped my muscles recover through compression, and did some stretching and foam rolling. Robert and I also went through our entire apartment to purge out old things to donate or throw away. We are moving to a new apartment next weekend in The Woodlands (same area where I ran my first marathon!), about an hour north of where we are now, and really need to get serious on packing up all our stuff this week!

My Workouts This Week:

Monday: Rest Day/Ice Bath (Travel Day from D.C.)

Tuesday: Rest Day/Stretching & Foam Rolling

Wednesday: 1,000 Jump Ropes – I hit the 10,000 mark just in time!

Thursday: Rest day (Travel Day to Dallas)

Friday: Rest Day

Saturday: Rest Day

Sunday: Rest Day (Travel Day from Dallas)

Monday Motivation!

QOTD: Have you ever done a fun photo shoot?

    1. Thanks! Just had to jump a few different times to get some good photos :0) My mom and Robert took turns throwing me the ball a few times to get the real action shots!

  3. What fun photos! I'm sure they'll give him a good smile overseas. :) Great job on your 10,000 jump ropes! Your calf muscles must be super strong now! As much of a pain as it is to pack up everything to move, I love the feeling of purging and getting to reorganize in a new place. Good luck! :)

  9. So fun fact - there used to be a Quidditch team at Pitt. I don't know if it is still in existence, but I heard it was pretty hysterical - that folks would be running around on their brooms and stuff in graduation robes. Is that not the best thing you've ever heard?

  12. Those photos are so awesome. What a great idea. You were very smart to take time off after your Nike Half marathon last weekend. After my marathon in March I took off a full two weeks, and you know what? You will come back stronger for giving your body a chance to heal. Good luck to your brother and thanks for being an awesome sister to one of our soldiers.

    1. Thank you so much for the encouragement - it does make me nervous if I'll lose any endurance taking a little break but knowing you came back stronger is a huge vote of confidence!
