Paddle Boarding in Maui, Hawaii

Whenever I go on vacation, I always like to make sure that, amidst my relaxation time, I incorporate fun fitness activities. From hiking, to running, to yoga, or water sports, whatever terrains to which my travels take me is how I decide what to do to burn some calories. While heading to your hotel gym is always an option, it is certainly not the most fun. Get creative!

When Robert and I honeymooned in Maui, Hawaii, we decided to try something new – paddle boarding. I knew it would be fun and difficult, but I had NO idea how great a core workout it would turn out to be! Learning to stand up on the board, then paddling while standing took an extremely engaged core (and strong legs as well). We even turned it into a game to see how long each of us could go without falling into the water, which made it even more fun! I ended up winning, but I personally think it is because I am shorter and therefore have a lower center of gravity, so it’s a bit easier for me to balance than Robert (he is 6’3’’ while I am 5’3’’)!

My parents were also enjoying the beach after our wedding the day before, so I recruited them to take some photos for us – here are a few!

If you ever find yourself on a vacation by the beach, I would highly suggest trying out this very fun form of fitness!

QOTD: Have you ever gone paddle boarding?

  1. I have never done this before but Lacey has. I bet it is increasingly difficult in the ocean compared to a lake. ~M

  2. I haven't paddle boarded but I've surfed. Another great workout that you don't realize is a workout until you can't move the next day.

  5. When I was in Maui I was alone, so I didn't go paddle boarding, but I really really want to try it. Its funny because I was just thinking about it last weekend, and thought it might be fun to rent one and just go paddle boarding at a few lakes this summer:)

  9. So much fun! It really is a great core workout. I am tempted to do this race coming up that has paddle boarding after the 5k. But it's two miles. Seems like a lot for a race on the board. So jealous that you got to go to Maui. That looks amazing. That is definitely on my bucket list.-L

  11. That looks like a lot of fun! I tried to learn to surf as a teenager but kept getting hit in the head with the surfboard, this looks more up my alley!

    1. Oh my goodness I just LOL'd at your surfing story. That is hilarious! Paddle boarding is much easier than surfing. I think you would definitely enjoy it! :0)

  12. I've always wanted to try paddle boarding! Looks so fun! My husband and I tried surfing (also in Maui and also on our honeymoon!) and that was pretty hard physically. I could never paddle fast enough to catch a wave. But I was able to stay on my board longer than my husband- possibly also due to my lower center of gravity. :)

Being short (I mean fun-sized) sure has its perks!! :0)

    2. We stayed at the Sheraton at Kaanapali on the west side, but I've visited the Grand Wailea- such a beautiful place! That resort is seriously jaw dropping! Did you get married there too?
Being short also means being able to pack more clothes into a suitcase!

    3. No we just stayed there for the Honeymoon. We hired a local wedding coordinator and had the wedding at a nearby beach in Makena!
