My Race Medal Display

I have always loved the idea of having a ‘race shrine,’ a special place to proudly display my medals. I never was sure how I wanted to display them, though. When I first started running races, I searched different running websites to find the perfect medal hangar, but I never made the plunge to purchase anything. I am very glad I didn’t because a little over a year ago, to commemorate my first half marathon, my parents surprised me with a specially made shadow box. They put a little glass slipper in there along with a plaque that they had engraved with ‘Lauren’s Glass Slipper’ on it. My parents are so amazing and have always been incredibly supportive of my goals and accomplishments!

Although it took me quite some time to put my shadow box together, I finally did, and decided to use it to commemorate my first half marathon, and my first full marathon. Here are a few pictures from the area in our new apartment dedicated to both my race medals, and my husband’s!

The left hangar displays my medals, and the right side is Robert’s image

I am considering the idea of putting our race bibs on either side of the shadow box as well. What do you think?

QOTD: How do you display your race medals?

  1. Your race shrine is so neat. I think the way you have it is nice. I saw your post the other day of your apartment, so cute! I was having trouble commenting that day, but knew I wanted to check back today to see your display up close. What a great Idea. I love the slipper too! I've been wanting to do a shadow box for my Boston 2 Big Sur Challenge for 2013.~L

  3. Love it! Right now I have just a medal holder that's just hooks. I know I want to do something different, but I don't know what yet. My race bibs are all in a binder in those plastic sheet covers. I like that you and Robert have side-by-side hangers. I had to put my husband's medals in a box because I needed more space for mine. :)

    1. Thanks! Before this, they just hung in our bedroom over the dresser mirror - nothing special. That is too funny you had to take your husband's medals down for the rest of yours lol!!

  7. Great display. Did that shadow box already come with the stuff displayed in it or do you have the ability to switch your medals in and out? -M

  11. I love that your parents got you the shadow box with the glass slipper! So unique and personal for you! I confess that my medals hang on the wall behind the closet door, but at least they're not just thrown in a drawer anymore right? They're out of sight but O and I still go in and look at them sometimes. :)

  14. Love it! I like your idea with the race bibs too:)
I used to use shadow boxes for my ribbon's, I loved them I actually have 12 still in them, but now I have this weird new idea for all the others and when I finish my 50 states goal, so I have just been hanging them on the wall with pins for the past few years until I am done and ready to make my creation with them, LOL
But I really like your display, is clear, classy, fun and I love that you have pictures with them too!!!

  15. So cute! So many medal hangers end up just being a mess of ribbons, but this is so clean and simply done. Love it!

  18. Love it with the bibs! I wish I had enough wall space, but alas not. I'm saving a few of them to have a bag or something like it made.
