Where In The World Wednesday

Every once in a while on my blog I like to recap adventures from my six months spent in Australia back in 2010. It was a once in a lifetime experience, and I just love to reminisce about it! Today’s post is from a snorkeling trip I took in the Whitsunday Islands.

There are about 74 islands that make up the Whitsunday group, so you could spend a lifetime exploring the area. It is located in northeastern Australia and is a very popular spot for snorkeling, scuba diving, and yachting! It also boasts some of the most beautiful beaches and oceans I have ever seen!

My friends and I took a small speedboat to a few snorkeling locations. I was able to sit on the edge of the boat while holding on to the rope lines so it was a thrilling ride! I also saw a barracuda during one of the snorkeling sessions, but definitely did not try taking a photo since they can be dangerous. I will say this though – as cool as it was to see one, my heart skipped a few beats until it swam away!

  2. Your pictures are beautiful! My sister and I went snorkeling a few years ago in Grand Cayman. I wasn't very good at it because it requires upper body strength to keep yourself floating (which I did not have at the time). Maybe now that i'm in better shape it will be easier for me.

  3. I tried snorkeling in Hawaii and couldn't do it. Every time a wave would wash over my head I'd panic, thinking I'd breathe in the ocean water.

    1. It's definitely a different experience and can be hard to get used to if you don't do it often. I grew up near the beach so I snorkeled a lot growing up. Just takes practice! :0)

  4. My dream is to visit Australia! It is the one place I want to travel to the most. I think I would die of happiness if I ever got the opportunity to snorkel at the Great Barrier Reef. I snorkeled in the Cayman Islands a long time ago. I don't remember it very well, but I do remember the stingrays! They were so friendly and would come up to you and want to be pet like dogs! I love the ocean and all of the creatures in it!

    1. I actually got to scuba dive at the Great Barrier Reef. It was incredible!! Huge check off my bucket list lol!

I've never swam with sting rays but I hear it's so much fun. I guess ever since Steve Irwin's encounter, I've been a bit weary though.

  7. Great idea for a post! I snorkeled in Hawaii when we vacationed there a couple of years ago and I loved it. I saw so many beautiful fish. I ran the Kona Marathon while we were there, too!

  8. Gorgeous photos, looks like an amazing trip. Confession time: I'm kind of afraid of fish. How strange is that? I can swim in the ocean, but only if I can't actually see the fish! :)

    1. Haha we all have our little quirks! But technically a shark is a fish so it makes sense if you think about it that way! :0)
