Weekly Recap 4/14/14 – 4/20/14

Jump Rope Challenge Count: 6,300/10,000

Hey everyone, and Happy Boston Marathon Monday! Best of luck to everyone running today – I am praying that everybody a SAFE and FUN race experience today!

I hope everyone had a very Happy Easter! Robert and I drove up to Dallas to spend the weekend with my family. We had a wonderful time, and on Easter morning, we did an ‘egg hunt’ for all our pups! Our youngest dog, Malia, and my parents’ youngest dog, Emma, both really got into it, too. We put dog treats in a few eggs, and they broke them open and ate the treats – it was hilarious to watch! Our other dog, Leilani, was more interested in playing with sticks in the yard, and my parents’ other dog, Roxi, was running around as fast as possible. I think she had a bunch of energy!

My knee pain was really off and on this week. Monday and Tuesday went great – no issues at all. Wednesday it hurt to walk, so I took the day off, then Thursday was a travel day, which then turned into a rest day as well. I did make up for taking two rest days over the weekend though! I also got to run with my dad, which is always fun. I love running with him – it is great father/daughter bonding time! Unfortunately, after about 2 miles, my knee starting feeling irritated. Ugh. I’m hoping all my attempts at recovery work soon. I may just be run/walking the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in D.C. next Sunday. No matter, though, because it’ll be fun no matter what!

This past weekend I finally got my first massage of the year. I went to the same guy in Dallas that I went to once last year and, once again,  he did a great job. My muscles felt so good afterwards, and I’m seriously considering going in for another session in a couple weeks (I’ll be back in Dallas to see my amazing brother after his graduation from Army Combat Medic Training, and before his first deployment to South Korea) to have him spend the majority of the time on my legs. I think it would be very good for my running!

Also, I’ll have a full post on the details tomorrow, but just a reminder that registration opens TOMORROW for the race events during the 2015 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend! Get those credit cards ready because these races are going to sell out fast!

  1. I have never heard of a dog Easter egg hunt but that is such a great idea! I will keep that in mind for my future fur babies. I'm sorry your knee still isn't feeling 100% hopefully it cooperates for the Nike half but like you said I know you'll have a blast no matter what!

  3. I went out to the Stockyards for Easter lunch. I can't believe how fast this weekend went by. As I was driving in to work this morning, I felt like I had JUST driven home from work on Friday.

  4. I'm so jealous of your mom's perfectly green yard! I hope ours looks like that soon. I actually had to go take photographs for work of a Easter bone hunt for dogs this weekend. It was pretty cute. I did not know you had 2 dogs!

I hope that knee pain disappears soon, or at least you are able to manage the pain during the race. I experienced that during PHM as you know and it made me have to run -walk-run. It didn't ruin my spirit though, but it was still disappointing because I knew I wasn't doing my best. Although it was my best at the time!

    1. I bet you had a blast photographing that Easter bone hunt - I hope you'll post a few pics because it sounds adorable!

I will definitely be alright for the race this weekend... I am thinking I may try KT Tape just in case (if they have a booth at the expo)!

    2. Just FYI, the last few expos I was too, you had to either bring your own KT tape or buy a roll there at the expo. I am just mentioning this because I wanted to get taped at my last race but I had left my KT tape back at the hotel and didn't want to buy another roll. ( they use to do it for free at previous expos) Also, you can buy it at CVS or Walgreens for much cheaper.

    3. Perfect, thank you for the info ladies! :0) I'll check to see if they'll be there, and if they are I will get a roll from Walgreens!

  6. That dog egg hunt was hilarious! I bought toys for my dog and Christine's, but that was the only excitement. We had a lovely day, despite the rain! I am not signing up for marathon weekend this year, but plan to be back at WDW for Princess! Are you signing up Lauren?

  9. We used to hide eggs for our dogs too! My terrier, Abby, would sniff them out and my brother's bulldog Clyde would eat them all. My dad liked dying real eggs but we were too old for traditional egg hunts, so we did it for the dogs instead. :) This Easter, the dogs just got special treats for the day and leftover ham from breakfast. Glad you guys had a good weekend!
