2013 – How Do You Measure a Year?

“Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty-five thousand moments so dear
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?”

Excuse my nerdy Broadway side – I just couldn’t help it! Any other Rent fans out there? Haha

How are you measuring your year? Total miles…races…personal accomplishments? Well, in numbers only, here is my year of running in 2013.

In photos and personal accomplishments, here are some of my best and toughest moments of 2013.

Favorite Race Overall
Disney Princess Half Marathon: This was my very first long distance race, and runDisney event. It was so much fun, and it holds a very special place in my heart.

Best PR Race
Believe! 10K: This was my race anniversary 10K, and even through painful cramps from lack of proper hydration, I accomplished my big goal of getting a sub-55 minute chip time.

Toughest Race
Cooper Sprint Triathlon: Transitioning from bike to run was quite the obstacle – trying to run on tired legs with a completely numb backside is one of the hardest thing I have ever done.

Most Fun Race
Tower of Terror 10-Miler: This was my first night race, and I loved every second of it. The pre-race dance party all the way to the post-race Hollywood Bash party was epic FUN!

Most Sentimental Race
Wounded Warrior Half Marathon: Being able to run for our military service members, both past and current, was an overwhelming experience, and it currently holds my half marathon PR!

Happiest Race Moment
Disney Princess Half Marathon: Running down Main Street towards Cinderella’s Castle. There are no words to describe this experience!

Most Exciting Personal Moment
Woodlands Marathon (race in 2014): Realizing that I WANT to run a full marathon, and taking action to do so; when I hit the register button for the Woodlands Marathon, it was incredibly surreal.

Favorite runDisney Announcement
Dopey Challenge: As amazing as the Glass Slipper Challenge would be, the announcement of the Dopey Challenge is what has me the most excited from this year. I will conquer it in 2015!

QOTD: What is your favorite race from 2013?

  3. What an awesome 2013 recap (I'm interested in your thoughts on the triathlon as I will be completing my first this year and am super nervous about the transitions)! My favorite race from 2013 would have to be the Turkey Day 5k. Even though this was just a fun run, I had a blast with the hubs as we ran through downtown Mpls in the freezing cold. :)

    1. I was pretty nervous about the transitions too. Best advice? Lay out a pile for T1 and for T2 so you aren't wasting time digging for the items you need to use to each transition. It wasn't so bad, though I will say I went into T1 slightly dizzy...the swimcap was pretty tight. Once you get in to the race, though, things just kind of happen so you will be fine! It was a lot of fun! In fact, I would love to do another one in 2014!

  4. OMG, as soon as I read the title of your post I thought of Rent! (one of my first dates with (my now husband) was him taking me to NYC to see Rent on Broadway)
Your 2013 was awesome! I think my favorite race of 2013 was Rock n Roll VA Beach! I'm hoping to run that one again!
