Weekly Recap 12/2 – 12/8 (And Big News!)

Marathon Training Countdown – 6 Weeks Down, 12 Weeks to Go!

I am going to start today’s recap with some news of epic proportion… I got into the 2014 Nike Women’s Half Marathon in DC! For those who have not heard of this race, it is a lottery process in which about 15,000 people are chosen to participate. Along with a gorgeous race course, the big appeal of this race is that when you cross the finish line, firemen dressed in tuxedos give you a little blue box with a Tiffany’s running necklace inside it!

I received this acceptance email last week, and was so excited I could barely contain myself!

Here is the 2013 finisher’s necklace. I cannot wait to see the one for 2014.

Early last week, Robert and I signed up on a whim for a fun Christmas themed race here in Houston. I will recap the full race on Wednesday, but we did the Rudolph Fun Run –Dasher 10K with some of our Team RWB friends! Since I was scheduled to do 11 miles on Saturday, I ran the race then went home and promptly headed to the treadmill to get in 5 more miles.

Here in a sneak peek – post-race picture with Santa:

In other fun news for this wonderful time of year, Robert and I went to Unleashed by Petco this past weekend because they were hosting an event for pet pictures with Santa. So, naturally, we had to take Leilani and Malia to get their photo taken!

Also, if you are still looking for an organization to donate to for Christmas, the Citizens for Animal Protection (CAPS) is a wonderful Houston non-profit that actively shelters, rescues, and places homeless animals to loving families. It is a personal favorite charity of Robert and mine because they are humane and compassionate as they speak for those who are unable to speak for themselves. If you would like to donate, click here.

Then on Saturday evening, Robert and I went to his office Christmas party. I always love this event each year because I get to meet a lot of wonderful new people, and catch up with others who I have not seen in a year!

Then on Sunday, I finally saw Frozen. Amazing movie, and incredible music. I already have plans to dress up as Elsa for the Wine & Dine Half Marathon next year!

Lastly, I am sure most of you have heard by now the runDisney news that was announced last Tuesday. In 2015, the Tinker Bell Half Marathon weekend will be moving to Mother’s Day weekend rather than staying in January (see video below). Since I am doing this race in January 2014, I don’t have much of an opinion on it, though many others seemed to be upset by the news. What took me by surprise was the HUGE hype that was surrounding this ‘big announcement’, then runDisney comes out with the most underwhelming pieces of information possible. I was seriously hoping for a new race announcement, or something equally as exciting!

My workouts this week:

Monday: 4 x (1200 meters fast pace + 400 meters walk)

1200 meters pace = 8:30 min/mile
400 meters pace = comfortable walk

Tuesday: Yoga

Wednesday: 5 Mile Easy Run (Pace: 10:30 min/mile)

Thursday: 4 Mile Easy Run (Pace: 10:00 min/mile)

Friday: Yoga

Saturday: 6.2 Miles at the Dasher 10K + 5 Miles

Sunday: Rest Day

Monday Motivation!

QOTD: Have you ever entered a lottery for a race? Is there a certain race with a lottery that you would like to enter someday?

  1. At this point I think any piece of new by rD will be blown out of proportion. I blame in part because they do these videos, then make people wait.

Good luck with the Nike half. I hear that little blue box is quite the motivator :-)

    1. So true Lesley. I wish I could avoid their "pre-announcements" so I don't get my hopes up when they make us wait!
