Weekly Recap 10/18 – 11/3

Marathon Training Countdown – 1 Week Down, 17 Weeks to Go!

Before I get into any recaps from this week, I just want to give a huge congratulations to everyone who participated in the ING New York City Marathon yesterday. It was an amazing race to watch, and astounding to know that there were over 48,000 participants!

Strength Training:
Almost non-existent. Sunday was the only day I did strength exercises. Tuesday, I worked late and was exhausted, and Friday Robert and I went to go see
Straight No Chaser in concert! If you haven’t heard of them before, and you are a fan of A Capella music, you should definitely check them out. If you want song recommendations, watch their version of the 12 Days of Christmas and/or their Movie Medley. They are my favorite A Capella group! Anyways, back to the main point – this upcoming week I need to do more strength exercises. It helps prevent injuries, which is definitely something I’d like to avoid while training for a marathon.

Mostly good. Monday’s speed work session, and Wednesday and Thursday’s easy runs were great! Saturday was a whole different ballgame. It was 6 miles of headwind; a battle of me vs. the elements. There are many times where I triumph over the Houston weather, but Saturday was not that day. By mile 5 I was exhausted, and by mile 6 I was just trying to put one foot in front of the other. However, about a quarter of the way through the final mile, I dug deep and was able to find a mental boost that got me through to the end without any walk breaks!

In Other News
The Nike Women’s Half Marathon DC lottery process opens up tomorrow (open from November 5th – November 22nd). I takes place April 27th, 2014. I really want to do this race, so I am considering signing up for the random draw; I haven’t completely committed to it yet though since I have a lot of races going on January – March next year already.


My workouts this week:

Monday: 4 x (800 meters fast pace + 400 meters walk)

800 meters pace = 8:45 min/mile
400 meters pace = comfortable walk

Tuesday: Stretching & Foam Rolling

Wednesday: 4 Mile Easy Run (Pace: 10:30 min/mile)

Thursday: 3 Mile Easy Run (Pace: 9:30 min/mile)

Friday: Stretching & Foam Rolling

Saturday: 6 Mile Long Run (Pace: Unknown)

Sunday: Full body strength training using 10 lb free weights, resistance band, and body weight

  1. "Heard this same song 20 times, and it's only Halloween." I love Straight No Chaser, if only for their Christmas Can-Can. It's so true... I was running errands this weekend and Christmas decorations are out

    1. LOL that is a great song too!! And it's crazy how quickly Christmas stuff gets out... I've noticed on the TV guide channel that there are some Christmas movies being played already!

  2. Great job on your training! I know you'll stay focused throughout and run a strong marathon. I'm seriously considering doing at least the half but we'll see! I want to try Chicago in 2014 for sure. These lotteries are something else!

  3. Ahhh!!! You saw Straight No Chaser in concert?!?!?! They are hands down my favorite holiday singers. And I have a LOT of holiday music. That's so cool!
    A co-worker's wife ran ING NYCM. Major kudos to everyone! :)

    1. Same here! The only Christmas song they sang though was 12 Days of Christmas for their encore. It was a concert for their new album 'Under the Influence.' They were so great, and hilarious!
