Work for it Wednesday

It’s no secret based on some of my past posts that I’ve been severely slacking on my strength training. It has probably been at least a month since I’ve really buckled down and focused on my core, arms, and glutes. Also, since I am confessing, even though I have been stretching, it is short and sweet. It has not been a true daily focus, but something that I do for a few minutes post-workout to help my body cool down. I wish I could say I have a good reason, but mostly it has just been feeling too tired to do anything and allowing myself slack off.

I want to get stronger and avoid injuries, so I have to make sure I stretch more every day and strength train more often. I am happy to report that on Monday I did 35 minutes of abs work with my buddy Jillian Michael’s, and she kicked my butt! It has been so long since I have done that workout DVD, so it was like starting from scratch and my abs were quite sore the next day!

The difficulty gave me a wakeup call, though, because in life I will often be busy or tired. But, unless my body physically needs a break, there should be no excuses to living a healthy lifestyle. Exercise is essential to enjoying a happy, healthy life, and the fact of the matter is, I HAVE to motivate myself to get it done.

To help those days where I may feel un-motivated, I will remember this: a workout is only 4% of my day. That is barely any time at all and I KNOW that the effects of that 4% are incredibly good for my health.

So this week, I am re-committing myself to my goal of stretching and strength training!

QOTD: Have you ever needed to re-commit to a specific goal?

  1. I herar ya! I set a goal of sorts to do strength training and work my quadrocepts (to reduce knee pain). I've done it a few times, but honestly it's just easier to throw shoes on and go for a run. I don't know why i keep puttig it off.
Some of those work out videos are tough. I can completely see how Jillian can kick your but. She exhausts me just watching her! Good luck!

    1. Agreed, it really is so much easier to just go run! Jillian is tough but I know it's worth it when I'm done!

  2. SO. TRUE. I struggle with strength training, too, and totally play the "I don't have time" card since I'm always either running or taking some sort of martial arts class. But now that you put it that way -- it's just 4% off my day -- maybe I can work on finding the time! :)

    1. Martial arts classes have to account for at least a little strength training right? Or am I way off base?! lol

Exactly, 4% is barely anything, we can do it!

  3. I was just telling myself this today as I finally got back to some strength training! I always want to run instead, but I KNOW how important it is for me to strength train, I just have to make myself do it and then it feels great!

    1. Exactly! No regrets doing it afterwards, it is just starting that is the hard part :)

  4. I need to keep that 4% in mind! I've recommitted to my stretching. I'm definitely noticing a difference when I don't stretch, and not in a good way! Strength training is still on a back burner... Hopefully I'll get to it someday! ;)

    1. I always notice too! My knees actually ache when I don't stretch so it's a good thing to re-commit to!
