A New Outlook

“Where do you see yourself in 5 years?”

I have been asking myself this formidable question for years, and to be honest, I probably could not count on two hands how many different answers I have given.

I used to think I knew where I would be – I had this unrealistic expectation that I knew exactly how my life would play out. However, life ended up proving to me that I, in fact, cannot tell the future. Go figure! :0) I am so grateful for that too, because it has turned out even better than I could have imagined!

Throughout my running journey, I have learned an amazing lesson regarding this very question. Going through life is much like preparing for a race. You learn and train all you can to be the best you can be to meet your goals in a race. You control what you do, along with when and how you do it, and yet, there are factors out of your control, such as weather, sickness, and injury. Still, in pursuing the passion of running, you never give up, and you discover what it is that motivates you and pushes you to do more than you ever thought you could achieve. Runners never quit – they find their best self.

So where do I see myself in 5 years? I may not know specifics, but I do know this – I will be working hard, always learning and pushing myself, and most importantly, happy!

QOTD: What has running taught you in life?

  1. Love this Lauren! I do find that the future never quite holds what I thought it would but it makes me really happy that it's almost always better than I imagined it would be! :)

  2. I always hated getting that question in interviews. I can't predict because life always throws me curve balls and I have to adjust the best way I can, but that's a good start. Happy, always learning and working.

    1. It is definitely a challenging question!

  3. 5 years ago I would have never thought I'd be where I am today, in a good way! I'm learning to just enjoy the journey.
Running has changed my life so much. It's taught me to believe more in myself- if I put my mind to it, I CAN do it! It's brought my husband and I closer together and put us on a healthier lifestyle (together we've lost 70 lbs). It's amazing what can happen. :)

    1. That is amazing, congrats to you and your husband!! :)

I couldn't agree more - life really is all about enjoying the journey!
