Race Schedule Update

This week I have added two new races to my schedule.

The first one is called the Color Me Cooper 5K and it takes place on Saturday April 20th. Not only is it a color run, but it also has obstacles! I am very excited since I have not done a race with obstacles yet. I know one of my goals is to do a timed 5K, but I just cannot resist the fun runs!

The second race I signed up for is my next long distance race. It is the Wounded Warrior Half Marathon in Dallas, Texas and it takes place on Sunday, June 9th. I am particularly motivated for this race because of where the proceeds are going. Not only does this race honor the men and women who currently serve, and have served, in the military, but it helps to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project as well as the Fisher House.

The Fisher House provides a temporary home for the families of military members who are hospitalized due to an illness, disease, or injury. This allows family members to be close to their loved ones during such an upsetting time. Each year, this organization helps over 17,000 families in their time of need.

The Wounded Warrior Project supports military members (and their families) who have suffered injuries related to their service to our country. The services they provide range from physical rehab to stress counseling, and even social events.

I have many family members and friends who served, or are currently serving, in the military. In fact, my dad retired from the Navy as a Commander after 24 years of service! However small it may seem, I truly see this race as an opportunity to help give back to them for the freedom they gained for me!

QOTD: What is the next race on your calendar?

  1. So great that you're running for a cause, especially one that is close to you personally. You've got me interested in finding a Wounded Warrior race near me. I, too, have many family and friends who are/were in the military.
As for my next race, I'm thinking about a 10k near me. I'm trying to get a faster official time before Dumbo. :)

    1. That is great, Kim!! Best of luck on your 10K :)

  2. You've inspired me! I did not know there was a 10k with this event, and I've signed up for that. It'll be good to get me out running again after my next half.

    1. Yay, that is wonderful you signed up for the 10K! What race are you doing for your next half?

    2. I'm doing a half marathon in Oregon with one of my best friends. I can't wait, a race and vacation :)

  3. I bet the weather up there will be perfect! Good luck!
